Holiday Survival Guide

Top tips for staying in shape over the Christmas and New Year break.
1. Plan ahead. If going out for the day get up that few minutes earlier than normal to get a session in, look at attending a later session than normal to get your exercise in for the day. Weather at this time of the year can also be rough with many days above 30 degrees, take this into consideration also.
2. Continue training and being active. There is a difference between relaxing and being lazy. Make sure you keep as much of your training regime as you can. If you away over the break this is the perfect opportunity to get out doors and be active. Going for a hike, bike ride, swimming etc are all great activities in keeping you fit.
3. When drinking, drink smart. Socialising is important over Christmas and drinking goes hand in hand with that for some. Make sure to drink plenty of water if you plan to have a few. Also if you’re going to drink try to avoid drinks full of sugar / pre mixes.
4. Be sensible with your food choices. Christmas calories do count not matter how much fun they are. Try to stick to as much ‘clean’ food as you can and indulge in one meal here and there but don’t make January a complete blow out. Stick to your routine as much as possible and avoid eating out at every opportunity, as this is where we usually go astray.
5. Exercise even if you can’t make the gym. Take a look at these 5 workouts that can be done on the road / away from the gym… give them a go next time you are unable to make the gym
